Membership includes people who have served as current and former military, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, provincial and municipal police, direct relatives of members and also affiliated members. Founded in 1926 as the Canadian Legion of the British Empire Services League, it was incorporated by Parliament in 1926. In 1962, Elizabeth II gave the Legion the right to affix the word “Royal” to its name. The Queen of Canada, is royal patron of the Legion and the Governor General of Canada is also traditionally appointed as a patron of the group.

RCL 291 wanted to ensure they were able to promote their events, newsletters, membership options and pictures of this location. Along with the West Shore Poppy Fund, they annually donate 90K to these communities through social activities, supporting seniors, developing youth leaders as well as those who’ve suffered illness or injury arising from Military service.

Historically the Legion Hall was the social centre of many Canadian towns. This was especially the case in the provinces with severe restrictions on the sale of alcohol, rules the legions were generally exempt from.

Promote Events

This branch in particular is constantly holding different events – it’s the place to be! Not only are these events available for members to attend, but anyone is invited! Branch activities include carpet bowling, shuffleboard, pool, darts, cribbage, and a slo-pitch ball team. Seniors or regular teams, there is something for everyone.
